passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 after a four year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born on Thanksgiving Day, 1931 in Altoona, PA. Lee was active in scouting, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in 1946. Lee graduated form Altoona High School in 1949 and enlisted in the US Navy in March of 1950, three months prior to the Korean Conflict. After completing boot camp at Great Lakes he graduated from the US Navy Fire Control Technician school in Anacosta, MD followed by service abourd the destroyer USS Willard Keith and destroyer leader Willis Lee. He graduated from St. Petersburg Jr. College and worked for 30 years as a surveyor and civil engineer, with various domestic and international dredging companies. His work and travel experiences included 64 countries on five continents. He was humble, unassuming, generous by nature and a great story teller.
Predeceased by parents, Blair L. and Bernice M. Hurm: and daughter, Gerri Lynne. Survived by wife, Elcira Cuenca of Buenos Aires, Argentina; twin brother, Dee L. (Carol) of Seminole; sisters, Nancy Moore (Chuck) of Melbourne, Dixie Matson (Rick) of St. Petersburg; seven nephews and three nieces.
A commitment service will be held at the VA National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Florida at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 25, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smile Train (repairing children's clefts) P.O. Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231.
To all who admired and loved Lee, remeber him as you "Nourish your soul with God's works, make it wise with reading, enlighten it by meditation, make it tender with love, sweeten it with humility, humble it with penance, enliven it with Psalms and hymns and comfort it with frequent reflections on future glory".
